It's really really great for building my confidence in reading in French and actually understanding what was going on even if there are words I hadn't encountered before。 I feel proud when finishing this。 But the stories' plots are sometimes too basic。 Still happy with this purchase! The concept if learning a language from short stories is interesting, however you need to know some basic French to use this book。 I think I needed something more along the lines of ‘Dick and Jane’ stories ;)

I thought this was a great book to read if you're learning a language and want to try something outside your textbooks/apps。 It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be since there was some vocabulary I needed to write down, but most of the time they defined all the vocabulary I didn't know at the end of the chapter。 It's an excellent resource :) I thought this was a great book to read if you're learning a language and want to try something outside your textbooks/apps。 It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be since there was some vocabulary I needed to write down, but most of the time they defined all the vocabulary I didn't know at the end of the chapter。 It's an excellent resource :) 。。。more

This is the perfect self study option for those who want to improve their French。 The book is made up of eight short stories and can be either used in formal French group or one to one lessons or as a stand alone tool。 The book can also be used as a discussion starter or alternatively you can use it as a translation guidebook。 Other really creative uses of this book include making notes and describing the overall theme of the stories to other people that you know。 You can even jot down unknown w This is the perfect self study option for those who want to improve their French。 The book is made up of eight short stories and can be either used in formal French group or one to one lessons or as a stand alone tool。 The book can also be used as a discussion starter or alternatively you can use it as a translation guidebook。 Other really creative uses of this book include making notes and describing the overall theme of the stories to other people that you know。 You can even jot down unknown words in a plain notebook to learn off by heart。 Or you can colour code all of the very hard to say words according to the level of difficulty etc for example in blue。 If you are studying French on your own you can use a dictionary as a supplementary revision aid to then check up on the meaning of any difficult French words which you find in the book。 This is the perfect self study aid, solution and suitable choice for all complete novices and adult beginners alike and makes a good companion aid。 Recommended。 I love using it。 Eight out of ten marks personally。 。。。more

Krátke, pútavé a jednoducho napísané príbehy aj pre začiatočníka。 A najlepšie na tom je, že ich možno nájsť aj v iných jazykoch。 Kto si ju teda prečítal napr。 v angličtine, v druhom cudzom jazyku sú vďaka známym príbehom i neznáme slovíčka ľahko domysliteľné。 Odporúčam。

A good read for beginning to intermediate French readers。 The stories get progressively harder, but there is a glossary at the end of each chapter, along with a summary and questions for understanding。

This was a really amazing book for language learners, I haven’t tried the other languages but it is extremely helpful for French learner to improve their language skills! I found the quiz, recap and vocabulary after each chapter extremely helpful! I can’t wait to read the French stories B1-2 that will be published soon! Amazing job, olly!

The first completely French book I've ever read (except for the introduction and acknowledgments of course)! While I'm so proud of myself for accomplishing this and would recommend similar books for people looking to improve their foreign language reading comprehension, I was often confused by the words the authors chose to highlight in their glossaries。 There were many "intermediate" words sprinkled throughout the stories that I periodically had to look up, but the authors chose to highlight words like "le garage" in the text and translate it in the glossary (if you haven't guessed, the translation for "le garage" is "the garage")。 The stories themselves were interesting and well-written (though I can't really judge if anything French is well-written at this point), however the back of the book advertised that there would be "crime and thriller" stories and I'm a little disappointed that none of the stories seemed to follow that trajectory。 All in all, if you're looking for a book of French short stories for beginners and you don't mind having to deal with a relatively useless glossary, I'd still recommend picking this up。 。。。more

Well done graded reader for learners。 A bit easy for me, but I would think higher level than beginner。 Good to have something like this to make reading in a second language less painful, and keep you motivated so you can go through without stopping too much。 Harder to do picking up regular books。 Even kids books often use language an adult learner wouldn't know right away。 Just might have been better if stories were a bit different to use more everyday vocabulary - pirate battles and spaceships Well done graded reader for learners。 A bit easy for me, but I would think higher level than beginner。 Good to have something like this to make reading in a second language less painful, and keep you motivated so you can go through without stopping too much。 Harder to do picking up regular books。 Even kids books often use language an adult learner wouldn't know right away。 Just might have been better if stories were a bit different to use more everyday vocabulary - pirate battles and spaceships aren't necessarily what one needs to know。 。。。more

this is a solid choice for the beginning french reading student。 It isnt too hard or too easy。 I have two complaints。 First, they highlight certain words and provide the definitions so you dont have to look them up, but they didnt put much effort into picking them well。 Often they provided definitions of words we had learned already in previous chapters or words that were obvious because theyre the same in english, like restaurant。 my second complaint is that the stories themselves arent so grea this is a solid choice for the beginning french reading student。 It isnt too hard or too easy。 I have two complaints。 First, they highlight certain words and provide the definitions so you dont have to look them up, but they didnt put much effort into picking them well。 Often they provided definitions of words we had learned already in previous chapters or words that were obvious because theyre the same in english, like restaurant。 my second complaint is that the stories themselves arent so great。 they arent horrible。; they jut feel like they were more worried ab out not offending anyone。 Probably had to be approved by a committee。 。。。more

An extremely useful resource! Helped me regain motivation after months of not doing any French。 The stories are interesting enough, the vocabulary is just right for someone at the A2-B1 threshold, and the division into chapters helps you feel accomplished even if you read just three pages a day。 Small critique: Given that it’s aimed at anglophone readers, much of the vocabulary highlighted and given in the glossary didn’t serve a purpose because it consisted of words like station, stupide, respo An extremely useful resource! Better than most of the French books I read in school that were supposed to help me learn French。 This one actually has a glossary at the end of every short story and the reading level advances as the book progresses。 Really help you practice and build on your French reading abilities。 Helps with growing your vocabulary。

I really enjoyed this book。 I have the Spanish edition too。 I am minoring in French and this book is perfect as a supplement to my courses。 I don't learn grammar rules, but my vocabulary increases with each chapter。 This book is perfect for my intermediate level in French and it was pretty easy to read。 I did have to whip out my dictionary at times since the vocabulary in the back only translates bold-face words and phrases。 It's not recommended for raw beginners。 It's ideal for people who at le I really enjoyed this book。 I have the Spanish edition too。 I am minoring in French and this book is perfect as a supplement to my courses。 I don't learn grammar rules, but my vocabulary increases with each chapter。 This book is perfect for my intermediate level in French and it was pretty easy to read。 I did have to whip out my dictionary at times since the vocabulary in the back only translates bold-face words and phrases。 It's not recommended for raw beginners。 It's ideal for people who at least have 2 semesters of French in college or 3 months of learning。 The stories are interesting and hold my attention, which is a lot better than a whole novel。 They keep me reading because it's fun to read while learning new words。 I really hope Olly Richards releases a new series of short stories in intermediate to advanced level in French and other languages。 。。。more

A pretty good learning tool with a varied, interesting vocabulary and set phrases (though I did spot some grammatical mistakes, which as a learner really confused me until I had to check them with a native speaker)。 The stories, however, are quite tedious to read and not all that fun。

This was a great book for probably an intermediate level French learner。 I wouldn't necessarily say beginner。 Some basic knowledge of the language is necessary to understand the short stories。 The one complaint I have is that the French-English glossary had too many words that were obvious of their meaning (because of close spellings to each other), and not as many other words that would have been nice to have translations for。The book is set up as short stories broken into a few chapters。 At th This was a great book for probably an intermediate level French learner。 I wouldn't necessarily say beginner。 Some basic knowledge of the language is necessary to understand the short stories。 The one complaint I have is that the French-English glossary had too many words that were obvious of their meaning (because of close spellings to each other), and not as many other words that would have been nice to have translations for。The book is set up as short stories broken into a few chapters。 At the end of each chapter, there are multiple choice questions in French, to test comprehension。 Answers are included in the back。 。。。more

Ce bouquin est un très bon resource pour apprendre le français en prenant du plaisir。 Cette forme d’apprendre une langue, c’est-à-dire en lisant et écoutant de choses amusants et anecdotes, c’est la meilleure et la plus proche de l’apprentissage naturel à mon avis。

Wasn’t a fan of the stories but it got me learning French so I’ll applaud it for that。

This was a very useful book for me。 It says it's beginner level, I would say it's advanced beginner or even intermediate。 But I love the approach--it has vocabulary words in bold print with definitions at the end of the chapter。 Each short story has a summary。 The stories are interesting if a tad weird。 It was great for my confidence, because I was able to read without looking up words, for the most part。 This was a very useful book for me。 It says it's beginner level, I would say it's advanced beginner or even intermediate。 But I love the approach--it has vocabulary words in bold print with definitions at the end of the chapter。 Each short story has a summary。 The stories are interesting if a tad weird。 It was great for my confidence, because I was able to read without looking up words, for the most part。 。。。more

I enjoyed reading the stories in this one。 I understood quite a lot Even though i’m merely an A1。 The stories were exciting, interesting and intriguing。 The vocabulary list at the end of each chapter contains a decent amount of words, the whole book is written French so apart from the vocabulary list there’s no other English words in the entire book。 That’s why I didn’t give Short stories in French 5 stars, as I Wish that an English version of the stories had been included so the student gets mo I enjoyed reading the stories in this one。 I understood quite a lot Even though i’m merely an A1。 The stories were exciting, interesting and intriguing。 The vocabulary list at the end of each chapter contains a decent amount of words, the whole book is written French so apart from the vocabulary list there’s no other English words in the entire book。 That’s why I didn’t give Short stories in French 5 stars, as I Wish that an English version of the stories had been included so the student gets more out of the learning process。 Apart from that it’s worth every penny。 。。。more

A really enjoyable way to improve my French。 I even enjoyed doing the questions。 Some of the stories were really enjoyable。 In particular La créature, le chevalier and la montre。 Others were a bit more obvious and basic though。 There were often words I knew that were in the glossary but others that I didn't know had been missed。 I think this is to be expected though。 A really enjoyable way to improve my French。 I even enjoyed doing the questions。 Some of the stories were really enjoyable。 In particular La créature, le chevalier and la montre。 Others were a bit more obvious and basic though。 There were often words I knew that were in the glossary but others that I didn't know had been missed。 I think this is to be expected though。 。。。more
